As a child, I was periodically sent to Sunday School and church, but my family did not make Christ the head of our household. As I became a young adult I put aside the Christian principals I learned and lived my life to please me, doing whatever I wanted, when I wanted. This was especially true when I moved from the Midwest to California. Before leaving California to return to the Midwest, a co-worker spoke to me about Jesus.
That conversation started me thinking. I began to read the Bible. A few months after arriving in Illinois, my mother became seriously ill and I sought God in earnest. In Jeremiah 29 God promises that when we seek Him we will find Him.

While listening to the biblical account of the crucifixion during a Good Friday service I realized for the first time that Jesus went to the cross for me! He bore my sins and opened the way for me to be saved from the consequence of my sin. No matter how hard I tried, I could not do that for myself. Humbled, I asked Christ to be my Savior. Since that time I've had mountaintop experiences and times of struggle and pain, however, God has always been with me. He promises to never leave us or forsake us.

In Psalm 139 King David asks:
Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?
He answers his own questions by saying:
If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea,
even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.

If you have not yet experienced a personal faith in Christ and want to, I suggest you click on the link below. If we were sitting together, perhaps sharing a cup of coffee, I would sketch out an illustration that would help explain why we all need Christ and how to be assured of eternal life with Him. The link is to the Navigator Ministry web page and the bridge illustration helped me understand my need. The Navigators also were very instrumental in helping me to grow as a Christian. You may want to surf around their web site while you are there.
